Volvo Brings Apple Music to More Than Two Million Vehicles via OTA Update

0

Volvo Cars has expanded its connected infotainment offering by rolling out Apple Music to more than two million vehicles through an over-the-air (OTA) software update.

The update allows eligible Volvo owners to access Apple Music directly from their vehicle’s infotainment system without requiring a smartphone connection, further strengthening the company’s software-defined vehicle strategy. Drivers and passengers can stream millions of songs, curated playlists, and spatial audio content through the native in-car application while benefiting from seamless integration with the vehicle interface.

The rollout demonstrates how OTA technology continues to transform vehicle ownership, enabling manufacturers to introduce entirely new digital services long after a car has left the factory. Rather than relying on dealership visits, Volvo can now continuously enhance the customer experience by delivering new applications, features, and software improvements remotely.

The addition of Apple Music reflects the growing importance of digital ecosystems inside the vehicle. As infotainment systems become central to the driving experience, automakers are increasingly partnering with leading content providers to offer native entertainment services that mirror the convenience of smartphones and smart home devices.

Volvo has been steadily expanding its Google-based infotainment platform with new applications and connected services, reinforcing its ambition to create a richer, software-driven user experience. The latest update further positions the vehicle as a connected digital environment where entertainment, navigation, voice AI, and cloud services work seamlessly together.

As competition among software-defined vehicles intensifies, native streaming services delivered through OTA updates are becoming a key differentiator, allowing manufacturers to continuously add value throughout a vehicle’s lifecycle.
