HCLTech is expanding its automotive software footprint through a multi-year partnership with Germany-based e.solutions, with the two companies working together on next-generation infotainment and connectivity technologies for Volkswagen Group brands.
At the heart of the collaboration are AI-enabled infotainment and connectivity platforms built on Android Automotive. HCLTech will contribute engineering capabilities across development, integration and validation as e.solutions looks to scale its software across multiple vehicle programs.
A major focus will be the human-machine interface. The partners plan to develop production-grade HMI software that can deliver a consistent user experience while operating across different vehicle hardware architectures and international markets.
This scalability is becoming increasingly important as automakers transition toward software-defined vehicles. Instead of developing completely separate infotainment systems for individual models, common software foundations can enable manufacturers to deploy applications, interfaces and connected features across larger portions of their portfolios.
e.solutions already specializes in automotive infotainment and communications software, including frameworks, applications and graphical user interfaces. It also provides system software analysis and integration for OEM and Tier 1 vehicle programs.
HCLTech, meanwhile, brings AI-driven engineering and experience supporting large international automotive programs. The partnership gives e.solutions additional development capacity as digital cockpits become more complex and Android Automotive gains a larger role within vehicle software architectures.
The agreement illustrates how the battle for the digital cockpit is increasingly moving behind the screen. As automakers add more apps, connected services and AI capabilities, scalable HMI and infotainment software platforms are becoming critical infrastructure for delivering those experiences consistently across global vehicle line-ups.
