Tesla expands AI capabilities in Europe with Grok rollout

0

Tesla has begun deploying Grok, the conversational AI assistant developed by xAI, across its vehicle fleet in Europe, marking a new step in the evolution of in-car intelligence and voice interaction.

The initial rollout covers nine markets, including the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain, with further expansion expected in the coming months. The feature enables drivers to interact with the vehicle using real-time, voice-based queries, allowing for hands-free access to information and navigation functions.

Grok can assist with route planning by identifying destinations, suggesting points of interest and adjusting journeys without requiring input via the touchscreen. The system is accessible through the vehicle interface or by activating the steering wheel’s voice control button, and offers different interaction styles through selectable “personalities.”

At launch, Grok is available on selected Tesla models — including the Model S, Model 3, Model X, Model Y and Cybertruck — provided they are equipped with AMD-based infotainment systems and running recent software versions. Access to the feature also requires Premium Connectivity or a stable Wi-Fi connection.

While Grok introduces more advanced conversational capabilities, Tesla notes that it currently operates alongside, rather than replacing, existing voice controls for functions such as climate or media settings.

The company added that all interactions are processed securely via xAI infrastructure and are not linked to individual users or vehicles. No separate account or subscription is required to use the feature at this stage.
