Toyota and Uber Join Forces to Accelerate EV Adoption Among European Ride-Hailing Drivers

0

Toyota Motor Europe and Uber are expanding their collaboration with a new initiative designed to make electrified vehicles more accessible to ride-hailing drivers across Europe. The partnership aims to reduce the financial barriers to switching from internal combustion vehicles by offering preferential access to Toyota and Lexus hybrid and battery-electric models.

The programme will initially launch in ten European markets, providing Uber drivers and fleet operators with dedicated purchasing offers, flexible leasing and financing options, as well as usage-based insurance tailored to professional drivers. Approved used vehicles will also be included, broadening access to lower-emission mobility solutions.

For Uber, the agreement supports its long-term objective of transitioning to a zero-emission platform in Europe by 2030. While vehicle affordability remains a key challenge, improving access to financing and reducing ownership costs are increasingly seen as essential to accelerating EV adoption among professional drivers.

The collaboration also strengthens Toyota’s electrification strategy across Europe. With battery-electric sales more than doubling during the first half of 2026 and electrified models accounting for the vast majority of its regional sales, the manufacturer is expanding both its product portfolio and mobility partnerships to reach new customer segments.

As ride-hailing platforms become an increasingly important channel for vehicle deployment, partnerships between automakers and mobility providers are evolving beyond simple fleet sales. Integrated financing, insurance and lifecycle services are emerging as critical tools for accelerating the transition toward cleaner urban transportation.
