Vodafone and Hyundai Scale In-Car Connectivity Across Europe

0

Vodafone IoT and Hyundai Connected Mobility are expanding their connected-car partnership with the rollout of Internet in the Car (IITC) across more than 30 European countries, creating a common connectivity layer for Hyundai’s growing portfolio of digital vehicle services.

Described by Vodafone IoT as one of Europe’s largest connected-vehicle service launches, the deployment is designed to provide Hyundai customers with seamless internet access while supporting digital services and in-car entertainment directly from the vehicle.

The first models supported by the expanded service include the Hyundai IONIQ 6 and IONIQ 9, with the upcoming IONIQ 3 set to join them. Rather than treating connectivity simply as internet access, the companies are positioning IITC as infrastructure for a broader connected experience.

For Hyundai, the rollout also supports its transition toward increasingly software-defined vehicles. A connectivity platform operating across more than 30 countries can simplify the delivery of services across markets while providing the secure and reliable connection required by cloud-based vehicle features and digital entertainment.

The partnership itself is not new. Guido Gehlen of Hyundai Connected Mobility Europe noted that he was involved in engineering and deploying Vodafone’s IITC technology around 11 years ago, highlighting how the service has evolved alongside the connected-car market.

The latest deployment illustrates a broader shift in automotive connectivity: the network connection is increasingly becoming the foundation for an in-car digital services ecosystem. As OEMs introduce more native apps, entertainment and cloud-powered functionality, scalable cross-border connectivity becomes essential to delivering the same experience across different European markets.

For app publishers and digital-service providers, deployments at this scale could ultimately make connected Hyundai vehicles a more consistent addressable platform across Europe, reducing some of the fragmentation traditionally associated with launching automotive digital services country by country.
