Michelin Brings Predictive Tire Intelligence to the Vehicle App Marketplace

0

Michelin Connected Fleet is expanding the role of connected vehicle data with a new integrated tire-monitoring solution developed with Doran. The collaboration combines Doran’s tire pressure monitoring hardware with Michelin Smart Predictive Tire, turning real-time tire data into predictive information for commercial fleets.

At the heart of the system is Doran’s technology for monitoring tire pressure and temperature, which feeds data into Michelin’s Smart Predictive Tire platform. Michelin’s Smart Leak algorithm then analyzes those signals to identify potential tire conditions and provide actionable information that can help fleets intervene earlier.

Drivers can receive near-real-time pressure and temperature information as well as in-cab alerts, while fleet operators gain additional predictive insights for maintenance decisions. The objective is to move tire management away from simply reacting to problems toward a more proactive, data-driven approach.

What makes the announcement particularly interesting from an automotive software perspective is its distribution model. The integrated solution is available through the Platform Science Virtual Vehicle Marketplace, which Michelin says is the first marketplace to offer it.

That marketplace approach demonstrates how the concept of the automotive app ecosystem is extending well beyond entertainment, navigation and consumer-facing applications. Connected vehicle platforms can increasingly distribute specialized services addressing areas such as maintenance, fleet management, diagnostics and vehicle performance.

The partnership also illustrates the convergence of hardware, software and vehicle data. Physical sensors collect information from the vehicle, connected infrastructure transports it, and software converts those signals into insights that can be delivered to drivers and fleet managers.

As vehicles become increasingly connected and software-driven, marketplaces such as Platform Science’s could therefore become an important distribution channel for B2B automotive applications — opening the vehicle’s digital ecosystem to services that operate far beyond the traditional infotainment screen.
