Samsung Electronics is expanding the capabilities of Samsung Wallet by introducing digital car key functionality for Toyota vehicles. The feature will debut with the Toyota RAV4 2026 model, allowing drivers to use their smartphone as a car key.
Through Samsung Wallet, users will be able to lock and unlock their vehicle, start the engine remotely and automatically open the car when approaching it. The digital key is stored securely in the app and can also be shared with family members or friends, with access that can be revoked at any time.
The feature requires compatible Galaxy smartphones equipped with ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, including models such as the Galaxy S21 Plus or newer devices. UWB enables the phone to detect proximity to the vehicle, allowing functions such as automatic unlocking.
The rollout is expected to begin in January 2026 in the United States, Canada and Mexico, with a European launch planned at a later stage. Samsung says additional Toyota models are expected to support the feature in the future.
Samsung Wallet already allows users to store payment cards, loyalty cards and other credentials. By adding digital car keys, the company aims to further position the app as a central hub for everyday digital access and services.
